Bullet is one of the four horses poisoned by 1080 in its paddock on the north island.
The above horse deaths were caused by yet another ‘oops’ by operators doing the aerial 1080. In addition to these horse deaths, New Zealand’s wild Kaimanawa horses have been deliberately exposed to aerial 1080.
“From 1981 until May 1996, the Kaimanawa wild horses were protected under Schedule 4 of the Wildlife Act 1953. In spite of this, the herd has been exposed to 1080 each year since 1992. … less than 300 mg of 1080 can kill a horse, and less than that is likely to have significant adverse effects. ” See: http://antennanewzealand.homestead.com/kaimanawa.html
